Technology Standards for Administrators, Teachers and Students

1. I feel the new administrator standards should parallel the new teacher standards.
As stated in the readings, "the administrators must be able to identify, use, evaluate, and
promote appropriate technologies to support instruction and to accomplish high levels of
student achievement." Therefore; it would be virtually impossible to evaluate
performances effectively if one does not have enough knowledge in each area of technology used.

2. I really don't think there are any additional standards to which administrators should be
held. The standards put in place in 2002, in my opinion, covers all grounds in the area of
supervising technology instruction to ensure the success of our students. However; I can't wait until June 2009 when the newly revised version posts. Technology experts obviously think different and since I am more of an immigrant than native of technology, I'm sure there is something I am overlooking that can truly raise our administrators success level. Technology improves every minute of the day and after all, 2002 was six years ago.

3. My overall reaction to the current administrator standards is whomever involved in writing
these standards did a great job in assuring all grounds were covered when administrating
instruction in our schools. They truly had the success of our students technology mastery
skills in their best interest. But not only was this standard written to ensure the best instruc-
tion possible, but also to increase the productivity of the administrator. That is why I say
again, the new administrative standards should parallel the new teacher's standard. How
can an administrator expect performance at a certain level if he/she cannot identify the
the areas of concentration with ease and understanding along the way?

An important role of an administrator is also to be an instructional leader. To me that means to lead by example. You mentioned that the standards in place are sufficient for "supervising" the use of technology. Don't you think that for teachers who are trying to transition from a digital immigrant mentality, it would help boost their confidence to see their leaders using the same technologies they are expected to implement?

Great point! With changes in technology happening every day, why has it taken six years to revise the technology standards. Don't get me wrong, it has probably taken me that long to get caught up to what was available six years ago! I am not an expert though!!! Administrators are charged with setting the standard for everything in their school buildings, so I suppose it is necessary to have a means to measure the proficiency of the leaders in the schools.
